Samsung Electronics hat im ersten Quartal die Erwartungen übertroffen. Wie die Nomura-Analysten CW Chung und Eon Hwang in einer Research Note schreiben, profitierte das Unternehmen dabei von dem anhaltenden Superzyklus bei Speicherchips. Starke Preise für DRAM- und NAND-Speicherchips sorgten demnach für erhebliche Einnahmen. Zusätzlich habe ein schwächerer koreanischer Won die Halbleitersparte angekurbelt. Gleichzeitig sanken jedoch die Betriebsgewinne in den Sparten Mobilfunk und Haushaltsgeräte im Jahresvergleich, da die Speicherpreise stiegen und der Wettbewerb sich verschärfte.

Tesla hat nach Angaben der US-Regierung eine Liefervereinbarung zum Bau einer Batteriezellenfertigung im Wert von 4,3 Milliarden Dollar unterzeichnet. Der Elektroautohersteller und die südkoreanische LG Energy Solution werden in Lansing/Michigan gemeinsam eine Produktionsstätte für Lithium-Eisenphosphat-Batteriezellen errichten. Die Produktion soll 2027 starten, wie das Innenministerium mitteilte. LFP-Batterien bieten eine sicherere, langlebigere und kostengünstigere Alternative zu herkömmlichen kobaltbasierten Batterien.
Die neue Lieferbeziehung könnte für Tesla im Hinblick auf Importzölle wichtig sein. Überdies will das Unternehmen seine Abhängigkeit von China verringern.

A combination of a strong initial public offering (IPO) market and bond sales has helped put Hong Kong’s financial health back in the black sooner than expected, with analysts expecting a robust pipeline of listings to be key to sustaining the city’s surplus.
In his budget speech on Wednesday, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said the city was previously expected to record a HK$67 billion deficit for the 2025-26 financial year, which ends on March 31, but emerged with an estimated HK$2.9 billion consolidated surplus.

China and the Philippines may soon start joint coastguard patrols in the South China Sea after years of tensions over the disputed waters, according to a Philippine senator.
Erwin Tulfo, chairman of the Senate’s foreign relations committee, met Chinese ambassador Jing Quan on Monday, and said afterwards that the two countries’ coastguards were expected to sign a memorandum of agreement by the end of March.
