Interesting rumors about the iPhone20 due out next summer. From the article: “Apple is said to be pairing the new display with pure silicon battery technology for improved power efficiency, which offers higher energy density than conventional lithium-ion cells and could allow greater capacity in the same physical space. One leaker has claimed a 6,000mAh battery could come to the device, though it is unclear where that figure comes from.” No company other than Enovix can produce 100% silicon-anode batteries. (“Pure silicon” probably refers to the same thing.) Apple are trying to develop similar batteries but are stymied by Enovix’s IP. Due to Enovix’s patent fortress wrt to architecture, Apple has to solve the problem of silicon expansion at the atomic level. They might have to eventually concede defeat and simply negotiate a supply or licensing agreement with Enovix.
