While Blizzard’s Hearthstone game has continued to rise in the ranks of top grossing mobile games even since the boycott began, the figures are boosted by the launch of an in-game event and a limited-time bundle of special offers. If you compare the game’s revenue run-rate before and after the bundle period in the U.S., Creutz wrote, it was “meaningfully lower than it was for two previous equivalent bundle offerings on August 20 and June 4.” “In absolute terms, we estimate that the U.S. post-bundle run-rate this week was 40% to 45% lower than the previous two bundle offering periods, suggesting that underlying Hearthstone trends, aside from the boycott, have deteriorated over the last three months,” he wrote. He estimates the boycott has hurt the game’s realized revenue in the U.S. by 18% to 23%. An Activision Blizzard representative didn’t return a request for comment.
