Today, bluebird bio announces the first person living with sickle cell has initiated treatment with our sickle cell disease gene therapy in the commercial setting. Andrew Obenshain, chief executive officer, shares his reflection on this milestone: “Seeing people living with sickle cell disease receive gene therapy in the real world is a vision that has fueled bluebird for more than 10 years.
