Using quantum computation for hashing and proof of work could require a fraction of the electricity used by classical resources alone and potentially reduce electricity costs by up to a factor of 1,000. D-Wave’s quantum computers are not instruments. Our Advantage2 quantum computer has solved problems beyond the reach of classical. This system is a powerful, energy efficient machine that has already proven its ability to outperform GPU clusters. Maybe energy efficient blockchain is hitting too close to home? I look forward to continuing this dialogue at Qubits on March 31.
