Super Micro Computer stock was falling sharply early Thursday after soaring in the previous session. The boost the artificial-intelligence server maker received from meeting its deadline to file delayed financial reports late Tuesday -- and avoiding the threat of delisting from the Nasdaq -- hasn't lasted, despite Nvidia's earnings. The stock, which trades under the ticker SMCI, is down 9% to $46.50 in early trading, while the Nasdaq Composite is up 0.7%. Super Micro stock rose 12% Wednesday, pulling back from a 30% gain earlier in the day while snapping a four-day losing streak. Chip maker Nvidia's fourth-quarter earnings, which were expected to set the tone for other AI-related stocks including Super Micro, came in above expectations Wednesday after the market close. Nvidia stock was falling 1.1% in early trading Thursday, but options trading had suggested a move higher and shares remain in a trading range -- suggesting investors are still trying to figure out where the AI trade is headed. Barclays analyst George Wang reinstated his Hold rating with a $59 price target on the stock Thursday. While Super Micro is leading in AI servers and liquid cooling capabilities, "its competitive moat is shrinking," Wang said. Meanwhile, Loop Capital analysts hiked their price target on the stock to $70 from $40 on Wednesday, according to FactSet. Coming into Thursday trading, SMCI was down about 57% from its record closing high of $118.81 on March 13 last year, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
