Products, Pipeline and Market The Company is developing and marketing the below products and product candidates, with a focus on the diagnostics segment in cancers. ColoAlert is a colorectal cancer (CRC) screening stool DNA test licensed from ColoAlert AS and sold in Europe. The potentially lifesaving and cost saving test detects CRC at an early stage, when it is easier to remove the cancer by surgery rather than treatment in the later stages based on symptoms that are unclear. High survival rates have been observed in cases of early detection of CRC, which is the third most-commonly diagnosed cancer but the second leading cause of cancer death in the world. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), CRC morbidity and mortality can be mitigated through appropriate screening. A report on CRC diagnostics market estimates a global market of $2 billion in 2020 that is projected to grow at a CAGR of 8.5% to $4.5 billion by 2031. The Company has an exclusive license with no fixed term, for the ColoAlert test from the Norwegian research and development company, ColoAlert AS, and plans to initiate a clinical study for the approval of ColoAlert by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Mainz Biomed also has the option to acquire the intellectual property (IP) of ColoAlert for an upfront payment of €2 million or company shares worth €4 million, plus lifetime royalty of €3 per test. PancAlert is a product candidate for a pancreatic cancer (PC) screening test based on Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) based multiplex detection of molecular genetic biomarkers in stool samples. According to an ACS article, there were over 432,000 deaths due to PC in 2018. The Company aims to make PancAlert the world's first PC screening test based on RT-PCR. The platform technology utilized by the Company uses disease-specific biomarkers - KRAS, mBMP3, NDRG4, and GNAS codon 201, and also enables simple integration of further biomarkers if needed. The test results can be analyzed by a specialized information technology (IT) solution. The test candidate is in the early stage of research, and preclinical trials have just commenced. The PancAlert development is supported by a grant of up to approximately €440,000 from the German Federal Ministry of Research and Education. GenoStrip is a proposed platform technology to detect pathogens in environments on a molecular genetic basis where a qualitative evaluation must be made in a short-time period. GenoStrip is being developed to be a rapid and easy to use test technology platform, which combines highly precise molecular genetics and a customized lateral-flow-dipstick to provide molecular results in as little as 20 minutes. The speed of the test depends on the sample preparation method, with the DNA or RNA target sequences amplified either in single or multiplex amplification reactions. The technology has the potential to be used for rapid qualitative analysis in cases such as diagnosis of COVID-19 or other respiratory viruses. The test will also be useful in the detection of pathogens causing sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), or the detection of mutated or deleted genes. GenoStrip is in the early stage of research, and preclinical trials have just commenced.
