$PYPL I'm reposting this because I don't want it to go under the radar for PayPal investors. Central to the bear thesis is that "competition" is killing PayPal, and $AAPL Apple Pay is usually cited as the primary culprit. This of course misses the Braintree take from Apple Pay, misses that not everybody has an iPhone and the TAM is somewhat limited, and misses that not every place is the USA. Nevertheless, many analysts and bears cite Apple Pay as being an existential threat to this company. What was expected is that the EU forced Apple's hand to open up the NFC chip for tap-to-pay functionality being reprogrammed to developers like PayPal. What was NOT expected is that they'd open it up to EVERYWHERE. This is a SIGNIFICANT blow to the most common bearish talking point. This isn't small. It's not an afterthought.
