Plug Power has today released its Q2 2020 results, reporting its highest ever second quarter gross billings totalling $72.4m. The New York-based company’s Q2 results included multiple one-time items reflecting the closing of two strategic acquisitions and the recently completed financing transactions. Plug Power also deployed a record of 2,800 GenDrive fuel cell systems and three hydrogen fuelling stations in the quarter, bringing the total historical deployments to 35,000 GenDrive systems and 100 fuelling networks.  Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Plug Power has deployed over 5,000 fuel cells units year-to-date with customers, with over 545.1 million hours of runtime in the field and 29.4 million hydrogen fills performed.  During Q2 Plug Power also launched the first ever convertible green bond offering the US, raising $212m with a 3.75% coupon and a five-year maturity. The company also purchased 66% of the 5.5% convertible bonds issued in 2018. The Company intends to use a majority of the proceeds towards funding the its growth in the green hydrogen business. Proceeds from this transaction were used, in part, to finance the cash portion of the acquisitions of United Hydrogen and Giner ELX.

Plug Power ist der erste, der in Großbritannien eine großflächige Brennstoffzellenlösung „verkaufen“ kann (zumindest nach eigener Aussage) Andy Marsh, CEO von Plug Power Inc. meinte dazu am 03.08.2020 nahezu euphorisch: “Each new opportunity to expand the adoption of hydrogen fuel cells is an important step to building the hydrogen economy.” Und weiter: “We’re especially excited to be partnering with an organization like Asda, which has such a proud heritage and sterling reputation. Their focus on making their organization more environmentally-friendly makes Asda an ideal partner, and we’re optimistic that this deployment is just the start of a long and fruitful relationship.” Und ASDA ist als drittgrößte Supermarktkette Großbritanniens mit rund 20 Mrd. GBP Umsatz kein „Kleiner“. Die Walmart-Tochter folgt der Mutter mit dieser „Wasserstoffinitiative“, die bereits neben Amazon in den USA Kunde von Plug Power für diese Dienstleistung „GenKey“

Wäre fast untergegangen, dass Plug Power Inc. (ISIN: US72919P2020) die britische Supermarktkette ASDA mit Brennstoffzellen für deren umfangreiche "Gabelstapler"-Flotte versorgen wird – genau, für die gesamte Lieferinfrastruktur der Supermärkte mit allen Zwischenlagern und Logistikzentren. Klar ASDA nutzt diese Nachhaltigkeits-Initiative für ein „grüneres Image“ – wichtig auf dem umkämpften Britischen Markt, der unter der Konkurrenz von LIDL und ALDI seine Marktanteile neu verteilt sieht. ASDA’s Initiative ist möglicherweise Antrieb für den Wettbewerb „gleichzuziehen“. Der Wasserstoff- und Brennstoffzellentechnologie helfen solche Leuchtturmkunden bei der Marktdurchdringung. Hier hat also Plug Power das große Los gezogen: Plug Power liefert an ASDA das „Rundum-Sorglos-Paket“ die sogenannte „GenKey“-Lösung: Brennstoffzellen, Wasserstofftankanlagen und ein Servicepaket. Start wird im Logistikzentrum Skelmersdale sein, dann folgen die mehr als 30 weiteren Logistikzentren in Großbritannien.
