Artificial intelligence might disrupt software, but Oracle continues to insist it’s safe from the threat. It’s a theme executives repeatedly returned to during Oracle’s earnings call last night. They made a convincing argument: shares of Oracle were up 8.4% on Wednesday. Investors have been paying close attention to software stocks this year following a selloff in the space. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software ETF is down 19% in 2026 and off 27% from its all-time closing high in September 2025. Investors remain worried that AI will replace critical software capabilities—concerns that have been intensified with each new release from Anthropic and OpenAI. “You’ve all heard the thesis or theory that new companies coding quickly using AI will spell the death of SaaS,” Oracle co-CEO Mike Sicilia said on the earnings call Tuesday night. “I don’t agree with that at all.” Oracle management argued on the call that the company, which offers enterprise software services, is not only safe from AI disruptions but is actually positioned to benefit from the evolving tech. That’s because Oracle is “rapidly” adopting AI tools and their coding capabilities, Sicilia said. “These are not systems that can be replaced by a small collection of niche features cobbled together and bolted on in the name of AI,” he added. Updating software capabilities is just one way the company has positioned itself to avoid AI disruption. Oracle is among a handful of tech companies that on top of offering software services is also building the infrastructure needed to power AI, renting out access to servers and storage. This is incredibly expensive—Oracle expects fiscal 2026 capex of $50 billion—but it gives the company the ability to benefit from the growing demand for AI. Other software firms that could also benefit from offering infrastructure as a service include Microsoft and SAP.
