Kennt sich jemand bisschen aus wielange der Vorgang vom Start, bis zum Absetzen und Positionierung dauert? Gibt es da angaben von SAS? Konnte bisher nichts finden.

Ah, sorry. 23. Ist ein Sonntag. Damit erübrigt sich meine Frage.

As “frankmusic” said – “Its not everyday you find a stock that can absolutely change your life.”
Quite true and from one who has been there and back, I am intrigued that some will continue to look for the next best thing, never fully appreciating what a gift they already have with SAS. I certainly don’t suggest one egg in one big basket, but a collection of them can complicate things needlessly IMO. I reckon if you have more than 5 x stocks on your watch list, you are doing none of them full justice – many I am sure will beg to differ.
Some pick-ups from the meeting not yet mentioned by others…………………………..
Launch date yet to be confirmed by ISRO but it is now looking like early May. While they wait, software fine tuning continues in the GOMSpace clean room where the 3D’s await their journey to India.
Virgin will also be a commercial customer as they want to enable all their aircraft comms to provide passengers with connectivity. Best I can see, Virgin has a total fleet number of about 230 aircraft. – (see below for breakdown)
SAS can provide savings of up to 80% of current satellite charges from the likes of Iridium Next and Inmarsat. If I were a shareholder in either, or other similar satellite provider, I’d be dumping my stock big time and getting into SAS! 80% saving on a $2/min Iridium call = $1.60/min saving. We could be talking a wholesale SAS price to a provider of 10 – 20c/min.
The ‘polar orbit’ of the 3D’s allows SAS not only the opportunity to check and validate the operation of the nanosats, it allows them time to plan and program for the added intricacies of extending the constellation above and below the +/- 15⁰ equatorial band to ultimately provide complete global coverage - some 1,000" nanosats.
Meir also indicated that if a potential customer with enough money wanted to pay to have a service provided outside the +/- 15⁰ equatorial band , then that was also possible. That suggests to me that it is possible to have a dedicated cover for the greater Indian area and also cover for China, both of which are above the current equatorial bounds and holds the greater % of global ‘unconnected’ population.
Meir is the first to admit his need to be ultra conservative when talking ‘numbers’ simply to remain in the reasonably accepted norm. So try this……………. Meir suggested that connecting and additional 3billion who currently have no means of communication, is totally unrealistic. He went so far as to reduce the 3billion down to 1/3000th… i.e. just 1,000,000 new connected users. AND based on voice only – not including data, he suggested a return of $10/month – that is 1,000,000 x $10 x 12months = $120, 000, 000 per year. YES – 1/3000th of a potential market which is also only a fraction of the other income generating possibilities enabled by these nanosatellites.
If he is too conservative and manages to get 1/300th of a potential market, SAS will be a $1.2billion+ / year company. I find it hard not to get excited about even significantly conservative numbers.
“Anush” - Or like people that have amazing software and future plans and will be worth $300 million or $3Billion each?
IP is something that these guys hold very close to themselves. They may well have certain aspects of their system that is currently being patented. My experience with patents is that they often serve as a guide to anyone who wants to copy and thereby reproduce another way to get a very similar if not identical result. The end is often a bun fight between the opposing legal teams that ultimately cost both parties a lot of money. The cost of going through the (global) patenting process can be horrendously expensive and take a very long time. Personally I hope they simply keep their IP very closely held with their small network and don’t bother about exposing it to the world in great detail in a patented format. Get in and do it - let the other follow IF they can. Being first in this race makes it a whole lot more difficult for the next guy!
Global Virgin fleet
130 Virgin Australia
38 Virgin Atlantic
63 Virgin America
This shows none of the fleet have wifi

Gibt es auch eine Uhrzeit? Wäre ja interessant wer zuerst reagieren kann, falls was schief läuft.

Future funding / Financing plans for constellation
- Brett Mitchell addressed the crowd on this, which he confirmed that funding will not be an issue as they already have instos / sophs showing a lot of interests, or like a combination of equity & debt plan. They will consider the best option so shareholders will be looked after and not end up with another massive dilution.
What if launch fails?
- As we all know, we are fully insured by BRIT Global Specialty. So financially it won't be an issue. However, Meir did say that it will take up to 6 months to rebuild 3 diamonds, find another launch opportunity etc.
Virgin Galactic alternatives
- Virgin's first launch is to be expected by end of the year. In case if LauncherOne isn't ready, we will have backup plans. Virgin was never the only launch option that the company has considered and there are a number of other companies that are on the books (ISRO for instance) if things don't go to plan.
Revenue model / Profit margin %
- This has been discussed a number of times but there's only so much that Meir can tell us at this stage. As you all know we will be running on a very low capex model. Interestingly, he drew comparisons to Iridium ($433m rev, EBITDA of $254m), and said that our profit margin will be better than theirs. http://investor.iridium.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=1014144
- He also gave a conservative estimation on how much revenue could possibly be generated, using Iridium's stats. Iridium customer spends an average of $60 per month, now "take away $10, then give them an extra 80% discount is what we will charge them", which is $10 per month. Our target market is 4 billion people, let's be realistic and say we get to 1 million of them, which is 0.25% of the targeted market (this is too conservative!). It then gives us - $10 x 12 months x 1 mil customers = $120m / year, which is almost enough to cover the cost of the entire constellation!
Now to add a few other things that I found interesting:
- Our first wholesale customer, Sat-Space Africa approached us to sign the contract, we didn't reach out to them in the first place, which is a big validation to our tech as they know we can provide them the same service for a much lower cost
- I also asked Meir about the software development team. He said they are a bunch of "very talented and hardworking group that is from our very own company, we own them". The team consists of engineers etc that used to work for Ericsson, all very experienced and good at what they do!
- Capacity of the constellation (raised by @PeterKing). If we do get more than 1mil customers for example, if the satellites will be able to handle. And the answer was yes - they are built to accommodate more than the estimated amount as they would. So unless ALL 3 billion people decide to use SAS's network (which we will all be millionaires by then! lol), there shouldn't be any concern with the capacity of service that constellation can provide!
- Once 3 diamonds are up, they will immediately go through frequency testing etc. The whole process will take 6-8weeks, so we will be expecting our first revenue roughly 8 weeks post launch
That's all I can think of on top of my head guys, will have to rush off to work, hope you all have a great week! :)
