Powell: Decision on pause not made today United States Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said on Wednesday that a decision on a pause of interest rate hikes was not made at today's meeting and that the Fed will take into account all incoming data going forward. He said that it is a "meaningful change" that the Fed no longer says it anticipates a further firming of monetary policy, but he did not exclude rate hikes in the future. Powell also commented on the debt ceiling saying that it is "essential" that it is raised in a timely way, as failing to do so would be "unprecedented" and the US would find itself in "uncharted waters" in terms of the impact of the decision on the economy.
