Nuclear’s carbon-free attributes have since won some climate advocates, and AI-fueled electricity demand has created a potential deep-pocketed customer base. Efforts are under way to restart reactors in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Iowa. In South Carolina, public utility Santee Cooper is in talks to sell its partially built AP1000s to Brookfield, which could complete them to power AI data centers.
