US in Talks to Set Up $5 Billion Fund for Critical Mineral Deals The US International Development Finance Corp. is in discussions to establish a fund to invest in mining as a joint venture with Orion Resource Partners. The potential collaboration is driven by anxiety about supply of critical minerals such as copper, cobalt and rare earths, with concerns about China's role in processing and acquiring mining assets. The partnership would see both parties provide the same amount of money, scaling up over time towards a combined total of about $5 billion, to invest in mining and boost supplies of critical minerals.
