Die Straße von Hormus ist eine Schlüsselroute für den weltweiten Öl- und LNG-Transport: Außerdem wird eine erhebliche Menge an LNG durch die Straße von Hormus transportiert. Katar, der drittgrößte LNG-Exporteur im Jahr 2023, verschiffte im vergangenen Jahr 108 Mrd. m³ Flüssigerdgas durch die Meerenge, was etwa 20 % des gesamten weltweiten LNG-Handels entspricht. Da Katar seine Kapazität bis 2027 auf über 170 Mrd. m³ erhöhen will, wird die Meerenge für die LNG-Ströme noch wichtiger werden. Straße von Hormus: Etwa 20 Prozent der weltweiten Ölexporte passieren diese Route. Alle LNG-Exporte aus Katar und den VAE passieren die SoH – 20 Prozent des weltweiten LNG-Handels. Es gibt keine alternativen Möglichkeiten, diese Mengen auf den Markt zu bringen.
