American International Group (AIG.N), opens new tab beat expectations for fourth-quarter profit on Tuesday, driven by higher investment returns at its general insurance arm. U.S. equity markets rallied strongly toward the end of the year as the Federal Reserve hinted at potential interest rate cuts in 2024, with the benchmark S&P 500 (.SPX), opens new tab closing up roughly 24%. The euphoria spread to other asset classes and fueled robust gains across investment portfolios. AIG said net premiums written in its general insurance arm for the quarter ended December grew 3% to $5.8 billion.
