UK inflation up from 2.5% to 3% in January
The UK Office for National Statistics reported on Wednesday that annual inflation in the United Kingdom rose to 3% in January, jumping from December's rate of 2.5% and coming above analysts' expectations.
Consumer prices fell by 0.1% on a monthly basis, while the Consumer Prices Index, including owner-occupiers' housing costs (CPIH), rose by 3.9% year-on-year and was little changed from the previous month.
Education and alcohol and tobacco were the biggest contributors to the increase in both the CPIH annual rates from December to January. On the other hand, clothing and footwear and furniture and household goods dropped.
