Microvast (MVST) is one of the only vertically interested battery manufacturers in the world. From raw materials they build entire battery systems including stationary storage systems all in house. I’d have to look for it but independent reports have it as the best performing battery supplier on the market, beating out CATL, LG, etc. I have $3.5M+ across several accounts, It was trading at $60M market cap with $300M revenue despite having clear runway to $1 billion+ revenue with profitability. The reason why it got so low is because attacked by Republican Congress members for its Chinese exposure which resulting in loan and grant cancellations, along with low cash on hand. Since then its CEO used $25M of his own money to save the business, and my understanding is that prior Chinese investors have divested. Where Trump fits into all of this is that today Microvast announced that Cantor Fitzgerald Research will facilitate a sale of shares to an unknown entity up to 10% dilution. Cantor has been a long-time analyst of Microvast, in fact its only analyst the past year, including hosting private 1-on-1 sessions with its CEO Howard Lutnick. Howard Lutnick is now a part of Trump’s cabinet, and the firm is currently run by his sons. It get even more interesting because I personally run a script on Google Trends to catch trending locations for Microvast which has worked out well in figuring out contracts and news prior to announcement since this is still a small company. Searches are normalized by searches/population on Google and give insight to where people have been searching for Microvast more than usual. Microvast has been trending as a search term on all timeframes for the past year, in two interesting locations, Washington D.C. and Terre Haute, Indiana. Regarding Terre Haute, there is no known connection to Microvast except that that is where Entek is building a battery separator plant. After that location started to have Microvast trending, Entek was soon after eventually approved for partial release of its DOE loan, and then formerly bought out by a private equity firm. My guess over there is that they will have some DOE loan-based JV in the future. In addition a lot of former Microvast employees were ex-military officials until the company ran out of money to complete the factory. Its Clarksville Tennessee factory is only a few miles away from a military complex. Its strategic partner is Oshkosh which won the USPS EV bid, it is very likely that Microvast is building the battery systems for the entire USPS fleet. Unlike LAC, Microvast is an American company registered in Delaware. It is not a VIE or ADR Chinese based stock like Alibaba, its assets in China are registered as a foreign business. A direct investment by the American government here would solidify an opportunity for the US government to “steal” advanced technology from overseas as well as close the security concerns that a company with a Chinese presence is building out a government fleet. Despite Trump being very anti-renewable energy, he is also very selective. To my understanding the vast majority of projects he has cancelled have been in blue states. The Clarksville plant was in Trump country and poised to bring hundreds of jobs across two plants.
