Juli 2025 (ABM FN-Dow Jones) US-Präsident Donald Trump wird ab heute Briefe an Handelspartner versenden, in denen er die Einfuhrzölle auflistet, die diese Länder ab dem 1. August zahlen müssen, so die Nachrichtenagentur Bloomberg. „Das Geld wird ab dem 1. August in die USA fließen“, sagte Trump. Laut Bloomberg sagte Trump, dass heute zehn bis zwölf Briefe verschickt werden, die restlichen Briefe folgen in den nächsten Tagen. Die Höhe der einseitigen Zölle wird stark variieren. Trump erwähnte Abgaben von 10 bis 20 Prozent, aber auch von 60 oder 70 Prozent. Der Präsident machte keine Angaben dazu, welche Zölle für welche Länder gelten werden. Die Zollpause endet am 9. Juli, und Trump konnte bisher nur wenige Handelsabkommen abschließen, nämlich mit Großbritannien und Vietnam sowie einen Rahmen für ein Abkommen mit China. Wer ein Abkommen nicht rechtzeitig abschließt, dem drohte Trump zuvor mit einer Abgabe. Eine Fristverlängerung ist laut dem Präsidenten nicht in Sicht.

(SERGEI GAPON/AFP via Getty Images) Novo Nordisk, the maker of Ozempic and Wegovy weight-loss drugs, just regained the title as Europe’s most valuable company after a year of decline that ultimately led to the firing of its CEO last month. Novo’s market capitalization is now $367 billion, pushing it above German software giant SAP’s $363 billion. The last time the Danish company held the top spot was in mid-March. On Friday, Novo stock was up as much as 2% in Denmark. Its American depositary receipts fell 0.8% to $80.39. Shares hit a low point in April, down nearly 60% in less than a year. Novo’s erosion over the past several months reflects the shift by investors to rival Eli Lilly. Several developments over the past weeks, however, are turning the tide—at least somewhat—back to Novo. The most recent development happened on Thursday, when Novo said it would fast-track its experimental weight-loss drug to late-stage clinical trials. Novo’s new drug, amycretin, combines the same GLP-1 hormone used in Ozempic and Wegovy with amylin, hormone that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar. Novo is developing both oral and subcutaneous versions. Novo’s yearlong struggle is to closely tied to a couple of big wins for Eli Lilly. Studies showed Lilly’s drug Zepbound promotes greater weight loss than Novo’s medicines. And Lilly’s new drug orforglipron has had promising results, while Novo’s next-generation weight-loss drug CagriSema hasn’t lived up to expectations. On Wednesday, Novo announced a new Phase 3 trial of CagriSema to try to assure investors of its potential. Lilly’s orforglipron is also a so-called small molecule drug, making it more scalable and easier to produce as a pill. Most drugs on the market now are injected. A weight-loss drug in pill form is especially important as the global market expands. A pill would be much easier to distribute because it doesn’t need to be shipped and refrigerated like an injectable. Novo employees have asserted the company isn’t aggressive enough in vying for market share and developing novel treatments, the healthcare news website STAT reported this month. When announcing the departure of CEO Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen, Novo leadership repeatedly emphasized that the company’s strategy remains the same. Still, moved by the company indicate a more forceful approach. This week, Novo signed a $812 million weight-loss drug license deal with U.S. biotech Deep Apple. In May, it announced a deal with San Francisco, Calif.-based Septerna to develop oral small-molecule weight-loss drugs. The Septerna deal is a risky move for a company that for a century has focused heavily on large molecules, or pharmaceuticals typically manufactured or extracted from living organisms. But if it works, Eli Lilly better watch out.
