Something that I consider to be a plus about the initial 3D trial is that these three nanosats will actually be launched into a Polar orbit and NOT the desired Equatorial orbit where future deployments will take place. We have a spot on the PSLV as a secondary payload. They’ll drop us off at the desired altitude but not the desired equatorial orbit. Future missions via Virgin, will be dedicated specifically for us, taking our nanosats direct to the specified location for ultimate deployment – altitude and orbit.
A Polar orbit not only allows the detailed testing and trials to take place, confirming functionality of the 3D’s, but it allows the company to explore future markets outside the Equatorial band +/- 15⁰. These markets would be in addition to those via the Equatorial band market. It may also provide impetus for SAS to expand outside the 200+ constellation and provide complete global coverage and not just the Equatorial band +/- 15⁰.
This has all the markings of becoming an absolute monster!
