Ein anschauliches Beispiel dafür GomSpace glaubt, dass der Markt im Fall des größten Kunden bedeutend größer sein kann Sky und Space Global (SAS). SAS hat mit GOMSpace rund 200 Satelliten bestellt Zweck der Konstruktion eines äquatorialen Netzwerks für die mobile Kommunikation. GomSpace’s management, however, believes market forecasts are cautious and it sees stronger growth in the coming decade. The reason for this more optimistic view is that market forecasts do not reflect potential new areas of use for nanosatellites. As a leading player in the segment, with the technical knowhow, it drives market growth by starting commercial satellite product companies together with joint-venture partners who provide external funding. This strategy is described further under the section Spin-off strategy. An illustrative example of why GomSpace believes the market can be significantly larger is the case of the largest customer Sky and Space Global (SAS). SAS has ordered some 200 satellites from GomSpace with the purpose of constructing an equatorial network for mobile communication. The long-term plan, however, hinging on the success of the equatorial network, is to set up a global constellation. This would require 10x the initial order, i.e. 2,000 satellites. This project alone would constitute a significant portion (20-56% using the forecasts above) of the current market projections for the global nanosatellite market in the coming decade. Although the market growth is very difficult to estimate, there is a realistic potential for a growth significantly above the market forecast we have cited above. In 2017, GomSpace received the largest nanosatellite order to date, from Australian company (European-based) Sky & Space Global. Sky & Space Global plans to launch a constellation of nanosatellites for a global communications network and the order placed with GomSpace is now, including one additional order, worth EUR48-70m over a four-year period. Sky & Space Global has an equity market value of AUD155m and had a net cash position of AUD9m by end Q1 18, when it raised AUD10m in a significantly oversubscribed share issue. An additional AUD5m was raised in April with existing shareholders. This was the third round of oversubscribed equity raising it did since listing in 2016 (including the IPO). At the moment, it seems that funding is not a problem. Largest shareholders in Sky & Space Global are the three founders/senior management. Although our conclusion is that the company is likely to continue to be able to raise cash for the expansion, risk appetite among investors and consequently funding for the project may change.
