Mal etwas zur Geologie von Sangdong: In Korea werden hauptsächlich zwei Arten von Wolframerz abgebaut: Wolframit ((Fe, Mn)WO₄), allgemein als schwarzer Wolframit bekannt, und Scheelit (灰重石, Scheelit: CaWO₄), allgemein als weißer Wolframit bekannt. Die in der Sangdong-Mine zuerst entdeckte Wolframart war schwarzer Wolframit. Die wichtigsten Erzminerale der Sangdong-Mine sind Scheelit , Wolframit und Molybdänit. Silber , Gold und Wismut fallen als Nebenprodukte an. Die Entstehungsmuster lassen sich in massive Skarne , in denen die Erzminerale als Erzsalze vorliegen und Quarzgänge unterteilen , die hauptsächlich als Adern im massiven Skarn entstehen . Die Erzlagerstätte enthält Scheelit, Wolframit, Feldspat und natürliches Wismut, wobei Scheelit im Zentrum steht. Molybdän kommt ebenfalls zusammen mit Scheelit vor. 30 % des in der Mine Sangdong geförderten Molybdäns sind an Scheelit gebunden. Gold und Silber treten zusammen mit Feldspat und natürlichem Wismut auf und werden aus Wismutkonzentrat gewonnen . Darüber hinaus enthält die Lagerstätte große Mengen an Arsenopyrit, Pyrit , Chalkopyrit und Sphalerit .
