‘Recent Earnings Confirm It,’ Says Investor About Broadcom Stock Gabe Ross Sep 09, 2026, 12:00 PM It is certainly a net positive to be at the center of a once-in-a-generation revolution like the AI buildup. Though Broadcom’s (NASDAQ:AVGO) surging AI semiconductor sales certainly reflect the incessant demand, the market’s initial reaction to its fiscal Q3 2026 quarterly report wasn’t so enthusiastic. Indeed, AVGO dropped by a few percentage points in the day after the earnings call, despite logging a double beat. Expected margin pressure in the coming quarter seemed to be one of the reasons the company’s share price dropped. Still, it’s not like the company is in danger of sinking into the red, as the company still expects gross margins of 73% in Q4. It is, however, a worrying trend for some investors, who need to look no further than the 75% Broadcom delivered in Q3. It’s also one of the reasons cited by one investor known by the pseudonym Cavenagh Research, who is turning sour on AVGO. “Recent earnings confirm why it’s the AI stock I trust the least,” declares the 5-star investor. That’s not to say that Cavenagh spots gaping holes in the company’s AI business. The investor even goes so far as to call its Q3 earnings “spectacular,” with AI semiconductor revenue jumping by 221% year-over-year to reach $16.7 billion. However, Cavenagh argues that AI growth is “diluting” the company’s business, citing an increasing mix of XPUs and memory content. While absolute profits are still growing, the investor believes that Broadcom could have a “structurally lower” business if the AI buildout normalizes. The investor is also concerned that the company is becoming increasingly tied to a small number of customers, some of whom remain pre-profit. Cavenagh argues that this “pressures” Broadcom into entering financing structures, while also making fairly sizeable purchasing commitments. “Broadcom’s problem is not AI demand, but whether the quality and risk-adjusted value of that demand is deteriorating as its customer mix shifts toward externally financed AI labs,” adds Cavenagh. Using EPS estimates for FY 2027, 2028 and 2029 EPS of $19, $30, and $37.5, respectively, Cavenagh now calculates that AVGO’s fair implied share price should be approximately $334, well below where it’s currently trading. And that makes the investor fairly bearish about AVGO, especially compared to some of the other companies around. “I do not see sufficient upside to compensate for AVGO’s higher implied risk profile than, for example, Nvidia, or Micron,” concludes the investor. https://archive.is/yHfLE#selection-2937.0-3123.147

Broadcom (AVGO) In a report released today, Amanda Tan from DBS maintained a Buy rating on Broadcom, with a price target of $470.00. The company’s shares closed last Friday at $357.90. According to TipRanks.com, Tan is a 5-star analyst with an average return of 56.8% and a 65.8% success rate. Tan covers the Technology sector, focusing on stocks such as Advanced Micro Devices, Qualcomm, and Marvell. Currently, the analyst consensus on Broadcom is a Strong Buy with an average price target of $521.41, representing a 45.0% upside. In a report issued on September 2, Jefferies also maintained a Buy rating on the stock with a $550.00 price target.
