The JNJ-3989 results generated great interest and excitement when presented a year ago It is well accepted that hepatitis B functional cure requires combination treatment and ABUS is just doing that with Assembly Biosciences (ASMB) in the combination trial of vebicorvir, Arbutus’s AB-729 and standard-of-care nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NrtI). Better still, ABUS are coming up with AB-836, likely to be a much better capsid inhibitor than vebicorvir. In a nutshell, ABUS has the best-in class treatment that can achieve functional cure of hepatitis B.
