Report says Ningbo BYD Semiconductor's new power semiconductor chip project has passed environmental acceptance, marking its large-scale SiC production launch. With a 744m-yuan investment, it cuts IGBT/FRD capacities by 74% each and adds 240,000 wafers/ year of SiC capacity, boosting automotive-grade chip self-sufficiency, supporting NEV high-voltage competition and paving the way for semiconductor spin-off.
The base will mass-produce 1500V SiC chips (compatible with 1000V full-domain high-voltage architecture and 5-min charging for 400km range), slashing switching loss by over
50%. Trial production is set for Q2 2026; full capacity will supply 1.5m NEVs, making the base one of the world's largest automotive-grade SiC hubs and accelerating China's NEV high-voltage transformation.

@oderWat Der Punkt mit Teslas Effizienz stimmt isoliert, greift aber zu kurz.
Der großen Gewinner sind BYD und Geely vor allem im günstigen Segment.
BYD erfüllt die neuen Effizienzgrenzen bei Millionen von Volumenmodellen (Seagull, Dolphin, Qin, Yuan etc.) bereits heute bei deutlich niedrigeren Kosten.
Genau diese Fahrzeuge sind am stärksten von Steuerbefreiungen und Preiselastizität abhängig.
Tesla ist effizient, ja – aber Tesla spielt preislich nicht im Massenmarkt, den diese Regulierung absichert.
Regulierung + Effizienz + Skaleneffekte = BYD verteidigt und baut Marktanteile aus, während Tesla strukturell begrenzt bleibt.
