Inovio starts dosing participants in mid-stage COVID-19 vaccine trial Published: Dec. 7, 2020 at 9:23 a.m. ET By Jaimy Lee Shares of Inovio Pharmaceuticals Inc. INO, -1.13% gained 0.6% in premarket trading on Monday after the company said it started dosing participants in a Phase 2 clinical trial for its experimental COVID-19 vaccine. Inovio plans to enroll 400 adults in the randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled study by the end of the year. A Phase 3 trial for the vaccine candidate remains on a clinical hold, and data gathered from the Phase 2 study is expected to answer some of the regulatory questions raised by the hold, according to Inovio. Testing for Inovio's two-dose coronavirus vaccine candidate is being funded by the Department of Defense. Inovio's stock has soared 281.8% so far this year, while the S&P 500 SPX, -0.17% is up 14.5%.
