Die HIV-positiven Frauen erhielten medizinische Behandlung und antiretrovirale Medikamente. Die Forschung hat im Kampf gegen das HI-Virus in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten große Fortschritte erzielt. Während antiretrovirale Medikamente Infizierten ein weitgehend normales Leben erlauben, bieten regelmäßig eingenommene Prep-Medikamente einen sehr guten Infektionsschutz. Einen wirksamen Impfstoff gibt es aber bis heute nicht. Dieser wäre insbesondere für ärmere Länder mit einem schlechten Zugang zu Medikamenten wichtig.
