Did $NVO just open the door for a potential M&A takeover of $VKTX…..? Or license deal? Do we start seeing some cracks in NVO “policy” for how to produce new peptides? That a new molecules that’s directed towards disease areas with the need for double digit tons peptides API must be able to be produced at their recombinant platform. A platform that leads to lower cost when big volumes. There’s some speculation about NVO might start source semaglutide API from Chinese synthetic SPPS processes. In today’s Q2 ER call ceo @maziardoustdar talked about what they might look for external. As bolt on acquisition to supplement their internal pipeline. He starts by mentions amylin, GIP and glucagon. And then he says this. “but also PERHAPS are we able to manufacture it in the same way as we are doing it historically. Perhaps…….. Then he goes on to say “That will pivot us probably to left and right-hand side of where we are, we will, of course, elaborate a lot of this more during our capital market day, as we have touched upon.” “They will pivot probably to the left and right-hand side…….” More to follow at CMD in September. I could see this as them opening a door here for molecules not suitable for production at their recombinant lines. As I have said before what ever NVO is looking at now. Where they are far in the DD process. If possible they would try and close before their CMD in September. IF we look at $VKTX then the timing is not optimal since their data readout is also likely mid to late September. But there’s also a school where BP makes acquisitions shortly before new data readout. Where they take on them a higher risk of buying something without knowing the new data. But also where the price is lower than after data readout. If positive. In the opposite side, some biotechs and especially their largest investors who might sit in the boardroom, would like to accept a lower price but then they are safe. They don’t risk losing it all if data is not as hoped for. And that does happen more often than good data in this business. When $GUBRA made a deal with $ABBV very shortly before data readout for their GUBamy, that was an example of such a deal. I’m not saying NVO will make a move on VKTX. And I’m not saying they will go for closing any such deal within the next 6 weeks. But what I do say is that to me @maziardoustdar opened the door to look more broadly than what they currently have been looking at. That some of the criteria has been loosened. And in that space maybe VKTX has come more on NVO radar.
