Was soll das Gestichel Hao?

Pilbara Minerals on track for Pilgangoora lithium mine expansionLithium producer Pilbara Minerals is understood to have locked in funding for an expansion of its Pilgangoora lithium mine and set to reveal plans to lift output even further.Pilbara will announce today that Chinese electric car maker Great Wall, Chinese lithium heavyweight Ganfeng, Korean giant Posco and Pilbara’s existing bondholders had combined to bankroll the $231 million stage two expansion of Pilgangoora. The funding package finalised late Wednesday night will cover the expansion of Pilgangoora from a 2 million-tonne-a-year processing capacity to 5 million tonnes a year. On top of that, Posco and Pilbara have agreed to expand an offtake agreement between the pair under a new plan for a third stage development of Pilgangoora of up to 7.5 million tonnes a year. The pair’s plans for a higher-margin downstream chemical conversion plant in Korea have also grown. The two are now investigating the development of a 40,000-tonne-a-year lithium chemical conversion plant in Korea, an increase over the 30,000-tonne-a-year facility initially envisaged.Pilbara managing director Ken Brinsden last night told The Australian there has been strong ongoing appetite among battery and chemical companies for additional lithium supplies.“The moves downstream through the lithium-ion supply chain really belie the mood in equity markets, which is really negative in at least the short term,” Mr Brinsden said. “What we see, especially in the continued growth of our mine over time, is that demand is very, very strong in the medium and long term.”It is understood the funding package for stage two at Pilgangoora will involve Great Wall taking up $US25m ($35.5m) in lithium prepayments, a $50m equity placement to Ganfeng at 64.4c a share, and an additional $US50m “tap issue” to Pilbara’s existing bondholders. Posco had already committed $80m for stage two through a placement in Pilbara.Australia’s lithium sector suffered a heavy selldown last year amid concerns that a wave of new supply would swamp the market — shares in Pilbara almost halved over the year — but Mr Brinsden said it was clear demand was still growing. Korea, he said, was particularly well placed to benefit from that.
