Our Continued Drive for Excellence It does not go unnoticed to everyone here at Blackbird that we live in a different reality at the moment, therefore, what is required to be noticed, when so many investors have become nonresponsive to results in the energy space. Our belief is that we need to be focused on utilizing our capital to achieve the highest utility and potential value for our investors. Therefore we have programed and designed a leading edge completion program for both our Upper and Middle Montney wells. We will not go into the minutia of all aspects of the program but we will share that both wells will be completed simultaneously and employ a 40 metre spacing clustered perf frac design using plug and perf technology. We can never guarantee the results of our wells but what we can say is that we are deploying a completion program that should increase complex fracturing in both the Upper and Middle Montney zones. This completion program is consistent with what Arc Resources Ltd. and Encana Corp. are employing in some of their wells in the Montney. This more complex fracturing of the reservoir from the down spacing of stages and increased rates and tonnage is depicted below. Where Does Blackbird go from Here? When Blackbird set out to create a Montney producer we knew it wasn’t going to happen overnight. For this reason we employed a business model that would allow us to withstand the unforgiving market as we moved forward. This business model included getting ahead of the trend and acquiring Elmworth Montney rights before the majors pushed prices upward, and our mandate is to continue to add to our land position in what we believe is one of the premier liquids rich natural gas plays in the Montney – all without overburdening our balance sheet. Though prices in the area have appreciated tremendously over the past year, with current market prices of approximately $2.9 million per section, we believe there still exists an opportunity to acquire land at reasonable valuations. We believe this can be done through our existing land acquisition strategy, and through utilizing the current market correction to acquire land from companies that are focused on maintaining the status quo rather than on growth. This market will also allow for companies in a position of relative strength (made easier without having to worry about servicing high debt, or having lines of reserve based credit shrink because of new price decks) to look at acquisitions that may have not been possible even 6 months ago – these ideas and thoughts could lead to Blackbird emerging from this commodity correction a much stronger and larger company. Blackbird also takes great pride in having exceptionally low G&A burden for a publicly traded company. This ideal has not waned, and along with our cash on hand, this principle has allowed us to be in a position of strength in these difficult and volatile markets. We are still very excited by the prospects that lie ahead due to our careful and strategic delineation program, prudent land acquisition strategy, comparatively low G&A burden, and most importantly, the continued support of our shareholders. Although the road has been bumpier than expected, 2014 was a banner year for our company. On behalf of our management team, I want to sincerely thank you for your support in 2014. While it looks like 2015 will be another year filled with challenges, it is our mandate to not only handle what challenges may lie ahead, but to continue to differentiate Blackbird from the pack. Just like the saying “nothing worth doing is easy”, it is absolutely true that building something truly exceptional is not easy. But it is certainly worth doing, no matter how bumpy the road.

A Mid-Cycle Night’s Dream. You are all aware that oil and gas prices have declined significantly in the last month, but here is a bit of comfort: Blackbird is well positioned to take advantage of the current market situation. Now let’s talk about where we are heading. As previously announced, we have been drilling both our Upper and Middle Montney wells at Elmworth and are now preparing to complete both wells with what we believe to be an exceptional completion program. Testing for both wells is scheduled for mid February. Further catalysts that could as well materialize within the next few months could be the addition of further lands, as we continue to be focused on adding acreage in our core area. In this environment many may think the best strategy is to turtle, and wait for a sunnier day. However, despite the extreme volatility in commodity prices, the team at Blackbird has continued to focus on the task at hand, which is to cost effectively drill and complete our first two wells at Elmworth targeting both the Upper and Middle Montney. In this Executive Letter we will discuss where we see the market for oil and natural gas going in the short and medium-term. We will also chat about the economics of our play (the Montney of course!) versus some of the other plays in North America. We will also explain why Blackbird is excited about the coming year and the opportunity we see in this challenging market. Where Does The Market Go From Here? Not many people predicted this commodity price correction but now it seems that everyone has their own forecasts for the future of commodity prices. It’s always interesting to see everyone coming up with their own forecasts and conclusions. At Blackbird we take an exceptionally cautious view on the forward look of WTI. We do not take a short term view of the commodity as our company is still, for the most part, pre-production; but we do maintain the view that the volatility that has been a daily part of oil and gas will continue into the first six months of 2015. Coming into the second half of 2015 we feel prices will begin to stabilize and eventually move upwards. This volatility and collapse of oil and gas will create a window of opportunity which hasn’t been seen since 2008/2009. Which Play Do YOU want to be in? Our view of the commodities market got us thinking about what so many people have begun to comment on: break-even costs. After doing some research, we found a study done in the Fall by Scotiabank which analyzed the different plays in North America and their associated mid-cycle break-even costs (including a 9% after- tax return). Not surprising were the higher break-evens associated with mining oil sands projects but what ultimately delighted was that liquids rich Montney projects have the lowest break-even costs. Another interesting data point was that at current prices according to this research, no Bakken or Permian assets are truly viable which, given the immense debt currently being held by producers in the region, could suggest production will begin to curtail – though not immediately. This further reinforces why we have focused our capital on our Elmworth Montney Project. The question investors have to ask is – which play do you want to be in for the short and long term, and does the play offer significant torque when commodity prices move to the positive? The true comfort this brings to us and to our shareholders should be that the Montney economics allow for defensiveness in more difficult markets but also act as a springboard towards growth as the commodity markets improve.
