Rüstungs- und Technologieaktien sind in Asien der Renner Mehrheitlich mit Aufschlägen zeigen sich die asiatischen Aktienmärkte zur Wochenmitte. Händler sprechen von Zurückhaltung vor der Zinsentscheidung der US-Notenbank am Abend. Zinssenkungen werden dieses Mal nicht erwartet. Da sich die Amtszeit von Notenbank-Chef Jerome Powell allerdings dem Ende nähert, rechnen zahlreiche Teilnehmer damit, dass er die übliche politische Zurückhaltung bei seinen Aussagen aufgeben könnte. In Asien folgen vor allem technologie-lastige Börsen dem Kursplus der Wall Street. In Taiwan geht es um 0,3 Prozent höher, in Korea springt der Kospi erneut auf ein Rekordhoch und gewinnt aktuell 1,7 Prozent. Vor allem beim Hersteller von knappen RAM-Speichern, SK Hynix, geht es um weitere 4,9 Prozent höher. Auch Rüstungshersteller sind gesucht, Hanwha Aerospace steigen um 4,6 Prozent.

In Seoul klettern die Aktien von Hyundai Motor um 10,2 Prozent nach oben. Hier treiben die Hoffnungen auf eine positive Entwicklung der US-Robotiksparte des Automobilherstellers. Die Aktien sind in diesem Jahr bereits um über 70 Prozent gestiegen, was dazu führte, dass die Marktkapitalisierung von Hyundai erstmals über 100 Billionen Won stieg. Hyundai hat angekündigt, ab 2028 humanoide Roboter in Produktionsstätten einzusetzen und plant, jährlich weltweit 30.000 Einheiten des Modells Atlas zu produzieren.

It was just over a year ago that Hanwha Ocean, one of the world’s largest shipbuilders, bought the Philadelphia facility, a storied naval yard that has shriveled under competition from Asian competitors, particularly in China.

The company aims to ultimately crank out up to 20 ships a year in Philadelphia, up from annual output of just one or two vessels recently. It plans to bring in modernized manufacturing methods—such as automation and robotics—from the firm’s world-class South Korean operations.

Korean tech companies Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix climbed 7.2% and 4% in Asian trading after Samsung’s CEO sounded a bullish tone on the company’s latest high-bandwidth memory chips.

Now another pressure point is emerging. From the start of next year, Mexico plans to impose import duties of up to 50 per cent on a wide range of goods from Asia, threatening to choke off a key workaround companies have relied on to maintain access to the North American market. The new measures, set to take effect from January 1, will apply to electronics, apparel, chemicals and a broad swathe of engineering goods – including cars and other vehicles – as Mexico seeks to protect domestic industries and address a widening trade imbalance with its Asian partners.

Meta has started removing Australian children under 16 years old from its Instagram, Facebook and Threads platforms, a week before an official teen social media ban begins. The tech giant announced last month it had begun notifying users aged between 13 to 15 years old that their accounts would start being shut down from 4 December. An estimated 150,000 Facebook users and 350,000 Instagram accounts are expected to be affected. Threads, similar to X, can only be accessed via an Instagram account. Australia's world-first social media ban starts on 10 December, with companies facing fines of up to A$49.5m (US$33m, £25m) if they fail to take "reasonable steps" to stop under-16s from having accounts.
