Der von Evonik und Ynvisible entwickelte Demonstrator zeichnet sich durch minimalen Stromverbrauch, geringes Gewicht sowie hohe Flexibilität, Transparenz und Robustheit aus. Die Entwickler haben auf ein besonders effizientes Design geachtet: Baugruppen, welche sowohl die Batterie als auch das elektrochrome Display benötigen, sind nur einmal vorhanden und werden gemeinsam genutzt. „Bei der zunehmenden Vernetzung von Gegenständen des alltäglichen Lebens im Internet der Dinge, wird druckbarer Elektronik eine Schlüsselrolle zukommen“, ist sich Dr. Michael Korell sicher. Er ist bei der Creavis, der strategischen Forschungseinheit von Evonik, zuständig für die Entwicklung von druckbaren Batteriematerialien (Taettooz). Produkte, die gedruckte elektronische Komponenten enthalten, könnten künftig an vielen Stellen zum Einsatz kommen. Zum Beispiel in der Logistik: Dort können intelligente, mit gedruckten Batterien betriebene Sensoren in Verpackungen beispielsweise Lieferketten von empfindlichen Gütern, wie Lebensmitteln oder Impfstoffen, überwachen. Werden Grenzwerte zur Temperatur oder Beschleunigung überschritten, gibt ein elektrochromes Display sofort eine leicht verständliche, visuelle Rückmeldung.
