In February, AVZ confirmed that it had signed a deal to sell a 24 per cent stake in the Manono project to Chinese miner Suzhou CATH Energy Technologies for $240 million, which would leave the former with a 51 per cent majority stake on completion. On May 10, AVZ gave a presentation to investors, detailing how it could end up with a 66 per cent ownership interest in Manono if it increased its stake by 15 per cent from 51 per cent under its legal rights to purchase a 15 per cent stake from Cominiere. The CATH Energy Technologies deal was flagged as part of a broader agreement announced on May 4 under which the DRC government awarded the mining licence for the Manono project to the legal entity majority-owned by AVZ.
