Trump considering possible Canada, Mexico tariff relief, Reuters reports TheFly Mar 05, 2025, 03:21 PM Shares of automakers, banks and chip firms jumped in premarket trading after Commerce Department chief Howard Lutnick said the Trump administration may announce a pathway for tariff relief on goods from Canada and Mexico covered by a North American free trade agreement, Reuters reports. In an interview on Bloomberg TV, Lutnick said Trump will make the ultimate decision on whether to grant any relief to certain industries but that the 25% tariff would remain with the view toward renegotiating its pact with Canada and Mexico next year. “The president gets to make the decision,” the Commerce secretary said. “But our expectation is that it’ll be categories. It will be 25%, but it’ll be — there will be some categories left out. It could well be autos.
