Micron Technology (MU) shares rose 6.5% in extended trading on Wednesday after the memory giant reported fiscal third-quarter results and guidance that topped Wall Street's expectations by a wide margin. For the period ending May 28, Micron said it earned an adjusted $25.11 per share as revenue soared 345.8% year-over-year to $41.46B. Operating income during the period was $xxxB, while cash flow from operations was $25.39B, compared to $4.61B in the year-ago period. Analysts had expected the company to earn an adjusted $20.83 per share on $35.85B in revenue. Shares have jumped more than 230% year-to-date and more than 720% over the past 12 months. “Micron’s record fiscal Q3 financial results and even stronger outlook for Q4 reflect the strategic value of memory in the AI era,” said Sanjay Mehrotra, Chairman, President and CEO of Micron Technology, in a statement. “Micron is investing at record levels in technology, products and supply to address our customers’ rapidly growing demand. We believe our multi-year Strategic Customer Agreements will significantly enhance the durability and predictability of Micron’s strong financial performance.” Looking to the upcoming fourth-quarter, Micron said it expects adjusted earnings between $30 and $32 per share, above the $25.72 per share estimate. Sales are forecast to be between $49B and $51B, well above the $43.58B estimate. Julian Lin, Investing Group Leader for Best Of Breed Growth Stocks, said expectations were “sky high” but somehow, Micron managed to top them. “One could quibble about whether this really is a secular story over the long term, but it is clear that the cyclical peak is still nowhere to be found in the near to medium term,” Lin said via email.
