The 450-patient trial began on Aug. 12 and will evaluate two unspecified low doses of the pill against a placebo, according to a study description posted Tuesday in a U.S. government database. The trial is enrolling patients with a BMI of at least 27, which falls within the World Health Organization’s overweight category. Results from this study will help select the most optimal lower dose of oral semaglutide that can be used for treating participants living with overweight or obesity. Novo’s pill has been prescribed more than 5M times since its U.S. launch in January, quickly gaining share in the competitive obesity-drug market. In the U.S., the two lower-dose versions of the pill are also priced at about half the cost of the two higher doses for self-paying customers.
