The annual inflation in the United States clocked in at 6.4% in January, falling only slightly from 6.5% recorded in December 2022, the Labor Statistics Bureau announced in its report on Tuesday. The reading was somewhat higher than analysts expected. On a monthly level, Consumer Price Index (CPI) was up by 0.5%. The main contributors to the jump were shelter prices. The energy index soared 8.7% for the 12 months ending January, while the figure was 2% higher month on month. The food prices surged 10.1% in comparison to the same timeframe in 2022, with the monthly reading increasing 0.5%. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy, rose 5.6% in January year over year, marking a fall from the December 2022 reading, which stood at 5.7%.
