Polish Health Minister told the public broadcaster, TVP that officials are working on a bill to ban synthetic nicotine pouches due to the associated health risks and surging in popularity among the youth. Although there was no mention of the tobacco-derived nicotine pouches, the ban is likely to cover any pouch product regardless of the source of nicotine. Traditional snus (i.e. tobacco pouches) is already banned in Poland and all across the EU, except Sweden. The proposed ban will be finalized based on the outcome of consultations, presumably by the end of 2024. It is also likely that synthetic nicotine products are classified as medicinal product available only in pharmacies, similar to the Nicotine Replacement Therapies used for smoking cessation.
