BYD Korea unveiled its DM-i Super Hybrid tech and confirmed the launch of new PHEV models in South Korea at a Seoul briefing on June 17.
Differing from European fuel-focused PHEVs, BYD’s hybrids adopt an electric-first, fuel-assisted design. Despite South Korea’s sluggish local PHEV market, BYD is confident in its technological edge, expecting PHEV sales to hit three times that of its BEVs.
The BYD SEALION 6 PHEV targets 1,000–2,000 monthly sales post-launch. The brand will also showcase its DM-i technology at the 2026 Busan International Mobility Show from June 26 to July 5.
According to South Korea's May 2026 imported vehicle data, Tesla, BMW and Mercedes-Benz top the country’s imported vehicle rankings, and BYD ranked 7th with 1,032 registered units.

Der Export aus China steigt wirklich rasand, das wird die EU denke ich nicht lange zulassen. Bin echt gespannt was die machen werden. Bin gerade im Büro angekommen und mein Nachbar hat jetzt zwei BYD SeaLion da stehen :D

BYD is set to introduce its flagship SUV, the Great Tang, to European and Asia-Pacific markets from late 2026 to early 2027. The move was disclosed by BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li at the FII Priority Europe forum in Rome on June 18.
Fueled by strong domestic demand, the mid-range flagship will further strengthen BYD’s overseas product portfolio. Building on its existing compact EV and PHEV lineup in Europe, the Great Tang will ramp up competition against established regional automakers.
The Great Tang officially launched in China on June 17, starting at 239,900 RMB (US$35,200), equipped with the 2nd-gen Blade Battery and flash charging. It has already secured over 150,000 orders since pre-sales began.
