The gross margin stood at 18.7% in the period, up 4.3 ppts YoY and 0.8 ppts QoQ, powered mainly by the improved economies of scale and slumps in lithium prices. The management remained confident on reaching a full-year sales volume of 3 million units. Additionally, the management forecast that, over the coming three to five years, competition between new energy vehicle makers in terms of technology and pricing will likely persist. However, BYD COMPANY should be able to weather through the ferocious competition as its product pipeline covers vehicle models of various levels. Jefferies maintained the Buy rating for the H-shares of BYD COMPANY, and chopped the target price on the stock from $274 to $263.
