G Sachs Keeps BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) at Buy; Yr-end Price War Factored In Goldman Sachs wrote in a ratings report that it believes the market reached a consensus expectation on the ongoing price war and expects BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)'s ASP to sink 3% in 4Q23. Stepping into 4Q23, the broker expects BYD's continued premiumization of its brand and export growth to drive blended ASP improvement, while a further drop in lithium prices and economies of scale will drive GM expansion and increase the company's unit profit. For 2024, the broker projects competition will persist, new entrants to the industry will launch new models, and most OEMs will prioritize sales volume over profitability. The broker envisages that OEMs, such as BYD, with its scale advantage, positive margins, healthy balance sheet and strong cash flow, will be in a stronger competitive position to emerge as the ultimate winners. Goldman Sachs said BYD's current price has already reflected the price competition at the end of the year, and maintained its Buy rating with a target price of $346.
