Sibanye-Stillwater (JSE: SSW and NYSE: SBSW) today hosted the 7th annual Marikana commemoration lecture, delivered by Dr Thabo Makgoba, Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, who has been patron of the Marikana Renewal Programme since its inception. Since acquiring Lonmin in 2019, Sibanye-Stillwater has honoured those who passed, supported their families and contributed to building communities through The Marikana Renewal Programme. The Annual Marikana Lecture honours the memory of the 44 people who lost their lives in August 2012 and is an important opportunity to recommit to the ongoing journey with families and communities to build a shared future. Archbishop Makgoba, was joined by guest speaker Nolitha Fakude, Chair of Anglo American South Africa, Vice President of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) and Former President of the Minerals Council South Africa, and Sibanye-Stillwater CEO, Richard Stewart. Archbishop Makgoba: Measuring mining includes what is restored to communities In his keynote address, Archbishop Makgoba said the Marikana Massacre held up a mirror to South Africa. “It forced us to look at ourselves: at the conditions in which people lived and worked; at the relationships between workers, companies, unions, communities, government and the police; at our failures of listening; at our failures of compassion; and at our failure, at times, to recognise the full humanity of one another.” He said the road to healing and restoration is long and arduous, but there has been progress with families engaged with greater care, practical interventions that honour those lost, and support for those who remain. “We have seen people who once stood far apart begin to sit together.” There is a “growing recognition that mining cannot be measured only by what is extracted from the earth, but also by what is restored to people, to communities and to the future,” he said. In closing, Archbishop Makgoba said, “Let us not allow Marikana to be defined only by tragedy. Let it also be remembered as the place where South Africans confronted pain and chose not to surrender to it. Let it be remembered as the place where grief called forth responsibility. Let it be remembered as the place where leaders learned again to listen. Let it be remembered as the place where a mining community began, slowly and imperfectly but sincerely, to build a new legacy.” Nolitha Fakude: The past we inherit, the future we build Reflecting as guest speaker, Fakude said, “Long before I understood mining through the language of business, I understood it through the language of people. I understood that behind every mineworker is a family. And behind every contribution to our economy is a personal story filled with aspirations, sacrifices and dreams.” Fakude said that, in many ways, the story of Marikana is the story of women. “Women who have carried grief with dignity, who have sustained families through unimaginable hardship, and women who have shown extraordinary resilience in the face of profound loss.” She added that the Marikana tragedy was a wake-up call that altered the way the industry understood its relationship with stakeholders, particularly workers. “It reminded us that mining is not only about the minerals we extract, the investment we attract, or the contribution we make to the economy. At its heart, mining is about people.” Fakude reflected on the enduring lessons of Marikana, and on the responsibility we share to transform remembrance into healing, and healing into renewal. “It is, ultimately, a reflection on how we build a future worthy of those whose lives we honour today - a future anchored in dignity, guided by compassion, and inspired by hope.”

Dazu sind noch die Arbeitsmarktdaten in den USA schwach ausgefallen, manche sagen "überraschend", das kann ich für mich allerdings nicht bestätigen, die werden auch weiterhin schwächeln, was den Edelmetallen zugute kommen wird.

Yup, und Mittwoch kommen die Zahlen zum Verbraucherpreisindex.

Was man so liest ist die geänderte Erwartung an die Fed eine mögliche Ursache. Die Leitzinsen sollen wohl doch nicht so schnell wie ursprünglich erwartet steigen. Gut eben für die 'Edelmetalle'.

Sibanye-Stillwater has, in terms of section 122(3)(a) of the Act, which requires any company that receives notification of a change in beneficial interest in its securities, whether through acquisition or disposal, to file the required notice with the Takeover Regulation Panel.
