Amazon agrees to pay $2.5B in FTC settlement
Amazon.com Inc. agreed to settle the case brought up by the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and pay $2.5 billion, the agency's senior officials told the Financial Times on Thursday.
"[Amazon] can no longer deceive consumers to sign up. [This] settlement puts a stop to [Amazon’s] unlawful enrolment practices," one FTC official remarked. Out of the total amount, the tech giant will allocate $1 billion for civil penalties and $1.5 billion for redress to consumers.

Die EU-Kommission bereitet laut drei Insidern eine zweite Geldstrafe gegen Google unter den EU-Digitalgesetzen vor, nachdem der Konzern bereits Anfang des Monats mit 2,95 Milliarden Euro wegen Bevorzugung seiner Werbetechnologie belegt wurde. Die neue Strafe betrifft den Vorwurf, dass Google seine eigenen vertikalen Suchdienste wie Google Shopping, Google Flights und Google Hotels gegenüber Wettbewerbern bevorzugt.
