Italiens Außenminister Antonio Tajani hat die Europäische Zentralbank (EZB) aufgefordert, wegen der Zolldrohungen aus den USA weitere Zinssenkungen vorzunehmen. Um die Konjunktur in der Eurozone aufrechtzuerhalten, müsse in Zeiten des Zollstreits auch ein neues Anleihen-Ankaufprogramm der EZB im Zuge einer lockereren Geldpolitik in Erwägung gezogen werden, sagte Tajani der Zeitung Il Messaggero.

Left: Rent cap instead of cuts to welfare

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - To limit housing costs for welfare recipients, the Left Party is once again calling for a general rent cap. The responsibility for the high costs does not lie with the people receiving welfare, but with the "companies that pocket the money," said Left Party leader Ines Schwerdtner in Berlin.
A "rent cap for all" would make sense, she added. That would "cap the profits of real estate companies." Cuts in cost coverage, on the other hand, would be the wrong way to go, Schwerdtner said. Even now, she said, a great deal of bureaucratic effort is involved in determining whether apartments are suitable for their occupants. Stricter rules would only expand the bureaucracy, said the Left Party politician.
She was referring to comments made by Chancellor Friedrich Merz. In an interview with ARD television, the CDU chairman had raised the issue of capping the rent costs covered by the state for citizens receiving social welfare. A review of the size of apartments granted would therefore be conceivable. With regard to housing costs, the chancellor said: "Flat rates are possible, lower rates are possible." Ich bin Froh, dass ich falsch lag und Ihr recht behalten habt. Der Wochenendkurs hat mich schon ziemlich nervös gemacht.
Das einzige was mir gerade noch Sorgen macht, sind die 10 jährigen Bundesanleihen.
