The unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points compared to August and came back to July's reading of 3.5%. The labor force participation rate remained virtually unchanged at 62.3%. Leisure and hospitality registered the highest number of new hirings in September, 83,000, followed by healthcare with 60,000, and professional and business services with 46,000. Average hourly earnings for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls increased by 0.3% or 10 cents month-on-month to $32.46. On an annual level, average hourly earnings went up by 5.0%.
