Chinese EV makers including BYD, Geely and Chery are accelerating their push into the Canadian market following a new China-Canada trade deal, according to relevant media reports. Under the new policy, Chinese EV tariffs drop from 100% to 6.1% with a 49,000-unit annual quota (first-come, first-served); 24,500 licenses are available in the first six months. Key moves: - BYD: 20 stores in Canada (2026) + considering local production. - Chery: Jetour E5 EVs in Toronto + local dealers invited to Auto China. - Geely’s ZEEKR: Hiring 7 senior roles in Toronto for market entry. According to BYD Dynasty official announcement, pre-orders for the BYD DaTang have surpassed 100,000 units as of today. As BYD Dynasty’s first full-size D-segment flagship SUV, the DaTang EV features the 2nd-gen Blade Battery and a 1000V high-voltage platform, with single-motor and dual-motor AWD variants. It debuted at Auto China 2026 with pre-orders open, priced from RMB 250,000 to 320,000 (approx. USD 36,400–46,600), and will launch in May.
