This significant development, announced by Minister of Minerals Anthony Mavunde, is expected to generate over 1,500 new jobs in the region, contributing to local economic growth. During his visit to the Sengerema district, Minister Mavunde highlighted the importance of following legal guidelines for community engagement through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plan. He emphasized that local residents should take advantage of business opportunities and services arising from the mine’s presence. The joint venture between the Tanzanian government and Perseus Mining, through the Sotta company, will see an investment of $500 million, with an expected operational lifespan extending from 10 to 15 years. The government will increase its free-carried interest in the project from 16% to 20%, enhancing its stake in the mine’s revenues. Compensation efforts for those affected by the project have already commenced, with over 20 billion shillings disbursed and 232 houses expected to be completed by May 2025 as part of the resettlement plan. This project marks one of the largest mining ventures under President Samia Suluhu Hassan's administration, further solidifying Tanzania’s growing footprint in the global mining industry.
