Oracle, the cloud-database and enterprise-software company, reported that NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS moved its shared internal database platform to Autonomous AI Database, while shares stood at $137.555 on October 1, up approximately 0.19%. The customer's headline result: a 43% cut in database-license costs.
The savings came from a substantial deployment. According to Oracle's announcement, the platform supports 12 critical internal systems connected to roughly 400 servers and holds tens of terabytes of data. Automated backups, patching and routine maintenance reduced administrative work. A disaster-recovery setup spans two Japanese cloud regions, giving the customer another reason to move beyond its on-premises infrastructure.
The customer savings give Oracle a concrete selling point, but the announcement discloses neither contract revenue nor deployment margins. For investors, the next test is whether cheaper, simpler database operations bring more workloads onto OCI—and turn customer savings into sustained cloud growth.
