Albemarle hat im Q1 rund 1,3 Mrd. $ Schulden getilgt und im Q2 erneut 638 Mio. $ Free Cashflow erwirtschaftet. Ende Juni standen noch rund 1,9 Mrd. $ Schulden bei 1,6 Mrd. $ Cash in der Bilanz. Wenn der Sparkurs und der starke Cashflow anhalten, könnte Albemarle seine Netto-Schulden noch in diesem Jahr praktisch auf null drücken. Für einen zyklischen Lithiumproduzenten wäre das ein enormer Bilanzvorteil. 🔋💰

Die Erholung läuft weiter! Die Lithiumpreise am Spotmarkt leicht im Plus. Am Futuresmarkt liegt die Eröffnung am Tagestief von -1,6% und der Schluss am Tageshoch bei +2,9%. Die Lithiumproduzenten in China und Australien im satten Grün. Da sollte es auch für Albemarle weiter nach oben gehen.

Ich habe in chinesischen Foren etwas anderes dazu gelesen. Die Verarbeiter sitzen auf vergleichsweise hohen beständen. Aktuell ist es ein Wartespiel zwischen downstream und midstream. Downstream kauft nicht nach, sie warten ab und hoffen dadurch den Preis noch weiter zu senken. Sie haben auch Angst wie in der Vergangenheit zu teuer einzukaufen und dann auf Verlusten der lagerbestände zu sitzen. Midstream will aber auch nicht auf Teufel komm raus verkaufen und senkt stattdessen einfach die Auslastung. Ein kräftespiel. Bis die lager Im downstream leer sind und man nicht mehr nur das nötigste kauft und wieder anfängt etwas Lager aufzubauen. Oder neue Kapazitäten online gehen und dadurch wieder mehr gekauft wird. An sich laufen die aktuellen ja fast zu 100% Auslastung und H2 gilt als eine Periode wo diese Produktion auch gehalten wird.
Dass die CATL mine nun noch langsamer als langsam online geht sollte die futures nichts desto trotz doch wieder anlaufen lassen.

As a result, we exited the second quarter near record lows in terms of days of lithium salt inventory. Based on mass balance calculations, we also estimate spodumene inventories are at near historic lows, and some conversion sites in China have reportedly shut down or reduced production due to the lack of spodumene availability."
Umso mehr wundert mich dann starke Rückgang beim Lithiumpreis.
Wenn die ihre Produktion auf Grund mangelnder Verfügbarkeit eingestellt haben, haben die dann gar nicht erst versucht Spodumen zu kaufen oder wie soll man das verstehen?

Das sind gute News an anderer Stelle war zu lesen, das voraussichtlich erst 2027 mit einer Rückkehr zur Produktion zu rechnen ist. Eigentl. hätte der Spotpreis bzw. Future heute maximal hochgehen müssen, aber ggf. kam die News zu spät. In jedem Falle sehr bullish!

Und dann fällt der Future auf Lithiumcarbonat, der den ganzen Handelstag im Plus war, kurz vor Handelsende noch ins Minus!

Okay. You kind of said it. Demand is a little stronger than we were anticipating. It is strong. EVs were weak in the first quarter, but they kind of trended back in the second quarter. Energy storage demand is kind of off the charts. With EVs coming back, there is strong demand. Supply's a little behind that. When we look out, say, for the year, there is supply coming on, and you always need that supply to come on because this market is growing. It's behind demand.
That's probably why you see inventories getting down to levels which we haven't seen for a while. The inventory, so the physical market is very tight. There are projects on the board. We expect investments to come. You need that to keep up with supply. Your question about is pricing driving that. I mean, we're in a range where people will invest in good projects and more speculative projects probably not. It's not a bad place from a pricing perspective. I don't think it's driving projects that weren't planned, and it's not taking projects that were planned off the books. It's not a bad place to be."
