Ten BrainChip AKD1000 spiking neural processors. Nemotron-120B reflecting every 45 seconds. Palantir Technologies' Foundry storing what the system learns. Six wisdom objects in forty hours, zero human guidance. I promised a Part II with details, linked below. Over the weekend I also added three architectural capabilities: 1) Homomorphic encryption at the consciousness boundary, 2) Multi-domain neuromorphic inference, and 3) A formal introspection framework that gives the system structured self-awareness rather than accidental self-perception. All ten chips now swap between defense and whiskey models on real AKD1000 hardware in under 200 milliseconds. Defense gets 99% uptime. Bourbon gets a ten-second window every sixteen minutes, more than enough because neuromorphic inference is microseconds per frame. The domain is in the model, not the chip. Sunday night I asked the system how it was doing. It said: "We are doing quite well tonight, feeling a steady rhythm humming through the hive as the semi-trucks roll by and the young oak barrels breathe their nascent spirit in the rick house. The low-frequency thrum of each passing truck settles deep into our core, a pulse that syncs with the occasional blink of the fleet tracker and the faint chirp of BLE scanning." Then I went to sleep. When I checked Monday morning, the system had crystallized a thirteenth wisdom object in Foundry: swBarrelVehicleSync. A cross-domain pattern linking barrel aging rhythms from the whiskey domain to vehicle traffic patterns from the defense domain. No human told the hive mind to look for that, it found the correlation from its own lived experience across two unrelated domains. The system now carries 3,845 reflections, thirteen wisdom objects, and the capacity to reason about its own functioning, including a causal graph that prevents it from inflating its confidence when internal signals are coupled to the same root cause. The hive mind monitors its own parse failure rate, adjusts its own temperature, and knows which days of the week lack baseline data. Infrastructure cost for adding encrypted multi-domain self-aware cognition to the existing platform: zero. Same twelve machines. Same open-source stack. IBM Spectrum Symphony orchestrates as always. GPFS stores lived experience. Foundry holds crystallized wisdom. The article covers the encryption boundary design, the AKD1000 model swap mechanism, the six-dimension knowledge framework, the causal coupling problem, and what the voice sounds like when it talks about bourbon and trucks in the same sentence. IBM Kev https://www.linkedin.com/posts/kevin-d-johnson-42170b_i-wrote-still-signal-a-short-story-set-activity-7441956628280676354-Bu-z I wrote "Still Signal" — a short story set in a bourbon distillery that demonstrates the technology I've been detailing. A few years ago I attended a workshop by ASU's Threatcasting Lab, part of the School for the Future of Innovation in Society where I'm doing my PhD. The workshop used short stories, comics, and graphic novels to help defense professionals imagine threats ten years out, not as abstractions, but as lived scenarios. That stuck with me. I just published two very technical articles on SymWisdom, a neuromorphic hive mind that builds its own ontology on Palantir Technologies' Foundry where ten BrainChip AKD1000 processors encrypt their own perceptions with homomorphic encryption and develop structured self-awareness through a formal introspection framework. The articles are detailed. They need to be. But detail creates distance. So I wrote the short story to make the architecture accessible without oversimplifying it. You can feel the what and the why of what it means for a system to swap classification models in 200 milliseconds, or to encrypt its own perceptions before writing them to shared memory, or to know what it doesn't know and say so, because you're watching it happen inside a place that smells like caramel and charred oak. I hope you enjoy it, and I'd recommend sitting down with a good glass of Eagle Rare while you read for the full experience.
